USA Federal Credit Union Sponsors Key “2006 Fleet Week San Diego” Events

Honors dedication of U.S. Military From All Services

San Diego, Calif., October 5, 2006 – USA Federal Credit Union’s ramped up sponsorship for the 2006 Fleet Week San Diego is paying dividends to those who serve our nation. As a “Two Star” sponsor, USA Federal is targeting $15,000 to help enlisted personnel from all military services in support of several Feet Week events.

“We are deeply committed to the men and women of our Armed Services and we demonstrate it daily,” said Jim Bedinger, Director of Military Affairs for USA Federal, “Fleet Week showcases how much we appreciate our military and their contribution to San Diego.”

USA Federal Credit Union is a key co-sponsor of “Operation Liberty Call” which delivers real dollar savings to all enlisted personnel. Special discounts provided by nearly 100 area businesses from East County to Downtown San Diego are available to military members and their families who purchase a $3 event coupon book. The “Liberty Call” event launches at 4PM on September 29th. The first 500 participants who visit event headquarters will receive an official “Operation Liberty Call” T-shirt provided by USA Federal Credit Union.

“The $3 coupon book has over $1,000 in savings on food and merchandise,” Bedinger added, “This is a huge value for our enlisted personnel and a heartfelt ‘thank you’ from the community.”

On September 29th, coupon books will be sold from Operation Liberty Call Headquarters at Jimmy Love's (corner of 5th Avenue and G Street) in the Gaslamp Quarter. From then, coupon books will be available on local bases through MWR/MCCS ticket offices, senior enlisted representatives and Armed Services YMCA offices.

“We hope to sell nearly 1,000 coupon books this year,” Bedinger said, “They would make great gifts if anyone wanted to make a donation through the Armed Services YMCA. Just call Phyllis Barber at (619) 232-9084 if you want to help a military family.”

USA Federal Credit Union is also the Trophy Sponsor for the highly popular All Enlisted Golf Tournament with San Diego Gas & Electric as the Name Sponsor. In its 4th year as a Fleet Week event, it is solely for enlisted men and women of the U. S. Navy, U. S. Coast Guard, and the U. S. Marine Corps. It features a “tournament within a tournament” as six Sea Service Teams (2 foursomes consisting of top players from each of the three sea services) compete head to head for the right to display the annual Fleet Week Inter-Service Trophy. In addition, up to 58 teams from area military commands participate for prizes in a scramble format. The tournament, held at the Navy's Admiral Baker Golf Course, concludes in the evening with an Awards Dinner for all participants, sponsors, and volunteers.

USA Federal Credit Union is once again a Table Sponsor at the highlight event of Fleet Week, the San Diego Rotary Enlisted Recognition Luncheon on October 5th from 11:45 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Harbor Island, Pavillion. Presented by General Dynamics and NASSCO this event pays tribute to approximately 250 dedicated and courageous military service personnel who have distinguished themselves in protecting our freedoms and our way of life. Hosted by the San Diego Rotary Club, this luncheon is how our civic, business and professional leaders say a special "thank you" to San Diego's military personnel.
