San Diego, Calif., March 10, 2006 – In a continuing effort to support the National Credit Union Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund, two CEOs from across the country joined forces to record Paul Simon’s song, “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” The collaboration included Mary Cunningham, President/CEO of USA Federal Credit Union in California and chairperson of the National Credit Union Foundation, as vocalist and Steve Winninger, President/CEO of State Employees Credit Union in Michigan, as pianist. The recording was part of a multi-media presentation at the Herb Wegner Memorial Awards Dinner held Sunday, February 26 during the 2006 Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington D.C. The presentation was an overview of the efforts of the Foundation to provide relief and support for credit unions affected by the hurricanes and its aftermath. This was Mary and Steve’s second performance at the prestigious awards banquet. Last year, they performed live, “America the Beautiful” in front of 800 guests gathered to honor the award recipients. “The devastation caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita is unprecedented,” said Cunningham. “Our fundamental principle of “People Helping People” shined through with an unprecedented $3.2 million raised and still growing to help the credit unions affected by this disaster become operational so they were able to serve their members.” “People across America are working together to rebuild the Gulf Coast region. Together, we can make a difference in helping our fellow Americans rebuild their lives,” said Winninger. “It was a pleasure and honor to work with Mary on this recording for such a worthwhile cause.”
